Milford, CT has an extraordinarily beautiful town green surrounded by
lovely colonial era homes and buildings. On the north end of the town
green is the historical society and museum. Anyone can go there and learn
wonderful things about the town's history. On the south end of the town
green, a street extends south and is also lined with beautiful colonial
homes. These areas are a painters dream! Having said that, I find myself
painting this spot each fall and many springtimes. In spring, the yellow
forsythia bloom against this large red brick building. In fall, the trees'
leaves turn all varieties of yellows and oranges. One time as I stood
painting, a woman and group of children in colorful clothing came across
the tracks to watch me. I've resisted the desire to include people in
one of these paintings, but that painting will happen. Spring of 2011,
I returned to make another painting (to be shown at a later date) and
caught the lights flashing and the train's engine stopped on the tracks.
The subject invites big shape-making and lots of color. As watercolor
artist, I'm looking for areas and reasons to connect light areas and make
interesting descriptive patterns while leaving something to the viewers
imagination! |
